Oliver Twist was a poor boy born in a workhouse. His mother died when he was born, and nobody knew who his father was. Oliver grew up in the workhouse, where life was very hard. The children were always hungry, and the adults were mean.
One day, when Oliver was nine years old, he was so hungry that he asked for more food. This made the workhouse leaders very angry, and they decided to get rid of him. They sent him to work as an apprentice for Mr. Sowerberry, the undertaker. But Oliver was very unhappy there too. Mr. Sowerberry’s wife and another boy, Noah Claypole, were very mean to him.
Oliver couldn’t take it anymore, so he ran away to London. The journey was long and tiring, but he finally reached the big city. There, he met a boy named Jack Dawkins, also known as the Artful Dodger. Dodger seemed friendly and offered Oliver a place to stay. He took Oliver to meet an old man named Fagin, who lived with a group of boys.
Oliver soon found out that Fagin and the boys were pickpockets. They stole money and things from people on the streets. Oliver didn’t want to steal, but he had nowhere else to go. One day, Dodger and another boy named Charley Bates took Oliver with them to steal a handkerchief from a man named Mr. Brownlow.
But things went wrong, and Oliver was caught. However, Mr. Brownlow believed that Oliver was innocent. He felt sorry for him and took him to his home. There, Oliver was treated kindly for the first time in his life. He was given good food, clean clothes, and a nice place to sleep. Oliver was very happy.
But Fagin and his dangerous friend, Bill Sikes, wanted Oliver back. They were afraid that Oliver would tell the police about them. Nancy, Bill Sikes’s girlfriend, helped them find Oliver and kidnap him. Poor Oliver was forced to go back to the life of crime.
Bill Sikes planned a big robbery and made Oliver help him. But the robbery went wrong, and Oliver was shot and left behind. A kind lady named Mrs. Maylie and her niece, Rose, found him and took care of him. They loved Oliver and treated him like family.
Meanwhile, Mr. Brownlow and his friends were looking for Oliver. They found out that Oliver’s mother had left a locket and a ring with a woman named Mrs. Corney. These things proved that Oliver was from a rich family. His real name was Oliver Leeford, and he was the heir to a lot of money.
Nancy felt sorry for Oliver and wanted to help him. She secretly met with Rose and told her everything. But Fagin found out and told Bill Sikes. Bill was very angry and killed Nancy. The police chased Bill, and he accidentally died while trying to escape.
Fagin was arrested and put in jail. Mr. Brownlow adopted Oliver and gave him a loving home. Oliver finally had the happy family he had always dreamed of. He lived with Mr. Brownlow, Mrs. Maylie, and Rose, who turned out to be his aunt.
Oliver’s life changed from sadness and hunger to happiness and love. He learned that even though the world can be cruel, there are also good and kind people who will help you.
The end.
