The Father of Modern Turkey

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was a very important person in Turkey’s history. He was born in 1881 in Salonika, which is now in Greece. Atatürk was a great leader who helped make Turkey the country it is today.

Atatürk led Turkey through big changes. Before he became a leader, Turkey was called the Ottoman Empire. But after World War I, the Ottoman Empire fell apart. Atatürk saw that Turkey needed to change to become strong again.

One of Atatürk’s biggest changes was creating a new alphabet for Turkey. Before, Turkey used Arabic letters to write. But Atatürk thought a new alphabet, based on Latin letters, would help more people read and write. This made it easier for everyone to learn.

Atatürk also made laws to give everyone equal rights. Before, only some people had rights. Atatürk wanted women to have the same rights as men. He encouraged women to go to school and work. This was a big change for Turkey.

Atatürk also changed Turkey’s government. He made it more like a democracy, where people could choose their leaders. He wanted Turkey to be a modern country, like those in Europe.

People in Turkey still remember Atatürk today. They celebrate his birthday every year on October 29th. Atatürk’s ideas helped make Turkey strong and modern.

“Peace at home peace in the world.”
