The Partnership
Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla were both famous inventors. They lived in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Edison was older and well-known for inventing the light bulb. Tesla was younger and had many great ideas about electricity.
Tesla came to the United States to work for Edison. He was very excited to work with the famous inventor. Edison hired Tesla to help improve his inventions. At first, they worked well together. Edison even promised Tesla a lot of money if he could solve a big problem with his machines.
The Conflict
However, the partnership did not last long. Edison and Tesla had very different ideas about electricity. Edison used Direct Current (DC) electricity. He thought it was the best way to send electricity to people’s homes. Tesla, on the other hand, believed that Alternating Current (AC) electricity was better. He thought it was more efficient and could travel longer distances.
Tesla tried to convince Edison to use AC electricity, but Edison did not agree. Edison believed DC was safer and did not want to change his system. This disagreement caused many arguments between them.
The End of the Partnership
The final break happened when Edison did not pay Tesla the money he had promised. Tesla was very disappointed. He felt that Edison did not respect his ideas or his hard work. Tesla decided to leave Edison’s company and start his own.
After leaving Edison, Tesla found people who believed in his ideas. He worked with George Westinghouse, another inventor, to develop the AC electricity system. They were successful and soon AC electricity became the standard.
Even though Edison and Tesla were never friends again, both men made important contributions to the world of electricity. Their inventions still affect our lives today.
