Oliver Twist is a young boy who grows up in a harsh orphanage. He is treated badly and doesn’t get enough to eat. One day, Oliver dares to ask for more food. This makes the people in charge very angry, so they decide to send him away.
Oliver is sent to work for an undertaker, but he is treated very poorly there too. So, he runs away to London. In the big city, Oliver meets a boy named Dodger. Dodger introduces Oliver to a group of boys who are actually pickpockets. Their leader is a man named Fagin.
Fagin teaches the boys to steal things from people on the streets. Oliver doesn’t want to steal, but he is forced to join them. One day, while trying to steal a wallet, Oliver is caught. Luckily, a kind man named Mr. Brownlow believes Oliver is innocent and takes him in.
Mr. Brownlow cares for Oliver and treats him kindly. Oliver is very happy, but Fagin and his dangerous friend Bill Sikes want to find Oliver and bring him back. They think Oliver might tell the police about their crimes.
In the end, with the help of Mr. Brownlow and some other kind people, Oliver escapes from Fagin and Sikes. He finds out that he has a family who loves him and finally gets to live a happy life.
