Martin Luther

A Brave Leader

Martin Luther was a very important person in history. He lived a long time ago in a place called Germany. He was born on November 10, 1483. Martin Luther did many things that changed the world.

Martin Luther was a monk. Monks are people who live a special kind of life devoted to religion. Martin wanted to make the church better. He thought some of the things the church was doing were wrong. One big problem was that the church was selling something called “indulgences.” People believed that if they bought indulgences, they could go to heaven. But Martin Luther didn’t agree with this. He thought that people could only go to heaven if they were truly sorry for the wrong things they did.

Martin Luther wrote a list of 95 things he thought were wrong with the church. This list is called the “95 Theses.” He nailed it to the church door in Wittenberg, Germany. This was a very brave thing to do because it made the church leaders angry. But Martin Luther believed he was doing the right thing.

Martin Luther’s ideas spread quickly. Many people agreed with him and started following his teachings. This led to a big change in the church. It split into two groups: the Protestant church and the Catholic church. The Protestant church followed Martin Luther’s ideas, while the Catholic church did not.

Martin Luther’s bravery and ideas had a big impact on the world. He showed that one person can make a difference, even against powerful forces.
