This is a popular English story that talks about the need to see beyond appearances and not judge or humiliate others, because we never know when their help may be essential for our survival.
On the other hand, it also shows the importance of knowing how to forgive: even when people attack us, sometimes we have the opportunity to transform an enemy into an ally.
Once upon a time there was a rose who was very proud of her beauty. Despite this, she was angry at having grown up next to a cactus that she found so ugly. Every day, the rose criticized the cactus’s appearance and he remained silent. The other plants in the garden tried to reason with the rose, but she was so enchanted by her own beauty that she didn’t care.
When summer arrived, the garden well ran dry and there was no more water for the plants. It was then that the rose began to wither. She saw a sparrow dipping its beak into the cactus to get some water. Even though she was embarrassed, she asked the cactus if she could also drink some water. The cactus readily agreed and the two faced the difficult summer together, as friends.
